[A "pondjumper" was what the crew of his ship called the small but surprisingly agile shuttles that were attached to the larger transport vessel. They weren't really fit to carry too much in the way of cargo, but the sacrificed transport capacity allowed them to have a larger engine and as a result be very efficient for hops between planets in a system, hence the name.
Well, that and that their ship's model was named after a type of frog, apparently. He'd never heard of the species back on Earth (Earth, what a strange memory that must be for everyone else but also for him) but it really didn't matter in the long run. The point is, he got cleared to take one out and head to St. Albans, in the same system that they were otherwise grounded in for the time being.
Of course, there also wasn't a proper landing zone on this part of the moon. He'd just need to touch down as best he could on a flat area of land near the town here, and man if that wasn't hard for him. Four years had past and while he credited himself in becoming skilled in many things, piloting was still something he eluded what he would call "mastery" in.
