He still thinks Raine is clever and kind, and would love to confer with her more, but paranoia's holding him back. Ever since the Mithos murder incident, he's worried that Raine looks down on him for not telling her he was involved. In fact, he virtually lied to her about it, as she did ask him about Mithos at some point and he feigned ignorance.

So yeah. His confidence kinda took a tumble, so to speak. That needs patching up.
