Katniss, you represent one of the things about Luceti that makes him the saddest: being an indication of how depressing other worlds can be. Sure, Aang's only really the Avatar of his world, which he saved, and there's nothing he can really do from here to change her problems. But he'll feel guilty regardless for every world that he cannot help, especially as he slowly finds out about all the traumas and phobias surrounding Katniss.
Especially because he can see the good in Katniss. The brightness. He doesn't know a lot about the choices she's had to make, but he what he does know is that they were influenced by the horrible conditions that she was forced into. Similar to how he faced that Katara had to kill Cultists in Luceti, he silently faces that Katniss has had to take lives, but he still sees her worth as a human being and her potential to be a happy, healthy person under different circumstances. He's glad to be her friend, glad to help her in any way he can, no matter how little. He knows that when she goes home, it may all be erased, but regardless, he'll be satisfied if he can help Katniss to have as many smiles here as possible.
And, very importantly, he wants her to embrace hope. Because who knows, if she holds onto it tight enough, maybe one day it'll survive the journey home.
Something I would like to eventually accomplish in Luceti -- though I think it'll take a long while -- is for Katniss to achieve that hope. She does so in the books and her username is actually inspired by that. In the epilogue, she's with Peeta and they have a family and District 12 is rebuilt, etc. And despite all the trauma they've faced, they've forged on and built a life together in honor of those who they've lost. And whenever the bad memories threaten to overtake her, she plays a game of listing all the good deeds or news she's witnessed that day. The idea that there's hope for the world after all.
SO SHE DOES GET THERE AANG. It just takes a while.
Ahaha. It's a bittersweet ending because despite everything, her sister does die at the end of the war. And pretty much everything Katniss does in the books is for Prim.
But the book does end on that positive note of life and love after so much tragedy. Which really is why I love the books, and love Katniss, so much.
Ugh yeah I do remember hearing about that too, that is the primary negative thing sticking out (and I'm sure I'll only get more depressed now that Lucy has a muse for her that doubtlessly is adorable!)
But yes, that is still a beautiful thing. I'm glad she and Peeta get to have good things after all.
Lucy's Prim is just the cutest thing ever. She writes her so damn beautifully and I really hope she apps her come May.
All the heartbreak and all the adorableness abound! Aang would definitely have to meet Prim. In fact, I can almost see Katniss showing her off to all her close CR.
Aw that would be so adorable. Aang would definitely want to meet her and probably get along well with her. It'd just be a shame she wouldn't be able to meet Ikki, lol.
