Aang is very chill with Ion. He can see some of himself in him - between what similarities have come up thus far between the Avatar and the Fon Master in addition to both of their peaceful, gentle natures - and he considers Ion to be a good friend. It also speaks well that Toph spoke so highly of him, and because of that Aang feels really sad thinking that they might never see each other again. So he wants to help him through such things as much as possible. Peace-restoring bros!
