[He actually can kind of relate to this a lot. Katara doesn't return his feelings in this world, so he's been uncertain of the steps to take himself. And had to step back and try to be supportive whenever she's gone on dates with others. But by now he may also have picked up on some level, that just knowing about their future back home is holding Katara back from committing to different people.]
In some cases... I think it might be for the best to step back and let the other person choose what their heart wants. And... even if it doesn't now, maybe their heart will want you, eventually. Love can be kind of hard to predict like that.
