Well, first of all, it is imperative to say they did not meet under the best circumstances. While parts of Luke's attitude did little to make a good first impression, he really can't find fault with him in the sentiment that he wants to protect her and make sure he isn't a creep- he would have done the same, honestly, and given his canon he is naturally a bit paranoid about suitors for those woman he finds important to him so of course luke gets props for it. And honestly he kind of feels like he should have gotten kicked around. Because he's a doormat and a glutton for punishment.

The only thing he could honestly find fault with was the demands to know what happened, as that would be almost insulting, in his opinion, to ask. There are codes of conduct in society when it comes to that kind of thing- they generally boil down to 'don't kiss and tell', Do not assume, and most of all do not do anything that could do harm to a lady's honor. There is a reason for all of these unsaid rules in his mind. Not that doesn't think he hasn't already with his own experimented actions and the filter blunder, and he will probably beat himself up for it continuously because of it.

He will never say what happened, even if it might potentially give him some relief, because Tear has not asked it of him and he won't be speaking of it without her permission. It is her choice, and Tear should be the one he is asking, not Frey.

I do think they could get along rather well in time, given their terrible habits of throwing themselves under buses for others nice guy ways, and their backgrounds in the upper sections of their mutual societies. They just have to move past the awkward 'you macked on my friend' bit to get there, I think.
