Ok, now seriously. Selphie is by now basically... Like Shun for Ikki now. She's his little sister, blood ties be damned, and one of the reasons why he hasn't gone mad in this place. She's also one of his biggest regrets because he knows that one day he will lose her, just as he has lost everyone else he cared for during his life with the exception of Shun. But it's worse now because not only will he lose her but he will forget all about her, and Ikki hates that more than anything else. Because of that, even though he knows it's far too late to stop caring, he tries to keep a barrier around him at all times, both for her and his own sake.

Still, it can't be denied that Selphie is a very important friend for him, family even as it was said before, and he hates to see her hurt or sad. He would and will do anything he can for her if given the chance, but doesn't want her to know those things either, she badgers him enough as it is. God knows what she would do if she knew he cared so much for her.
