Kyon's gotten somewhat used to this version of Haruhi now. Going home for a day was a reminder, funnily enough, that in many ways she's the same as the original Haruhi -- the similarity in their gestures being just one example. Having (1) settled in more, (2) seen for sure (or sure enough) that when he returns next he's just going to go back to where he left off, (3) understood now, after his months of digging, more or less a decent amount of what's happened with her, and (4) seen and felt what it's like to have Mikuru and Yuki leave, he's now inclined to stay here to see it out, as he told her -- and, of course, not having to actually face that choice helps.
['Plus, without Koizumi breathing down my neck, literally, and with Haruhi happily occupied with her romance (which, for the record, I will never truly understand), the coast is totally clear and there are a lot of cute girls around.
...I'm just saying.']
Seriously though, it's taken him a while to mostly stop thinking of Haruhi in those ambiguous, confused, but definitely tinged-with-romantic terms that he sees her in at home. Separating her out as a "different Haruhi" helped with that.
['...Finding out she was once a guy also helped.']
But he's convinced himself now that he's gotten over that situation entirely -- after all, it's been six months and he'd barely known Haruhi for more than a year. Not going to school is fine with him, too -- though admittedly there's a little less to bum around with and distract himself with here than at home.
All those factors have helped him change his attitude somewhat about Luceti -- and by extension about Haruhi in Luceti.
['Yeah, yeah. Doesn't mean I wouldn't rather be at home.']
