Katie is by far one of the more intriguing children he's befriended, due to her true nature and just how easily she will take things in stride, with the elasticity of an imaginative child. Obviously he likes her very much - she's cute and quirky and enjoys his cooking. It'd be hard to imagine Luceti without her, and he'd go as far to think it would be a lot more boring without her running commentary.

She is also, strangely enough, someone he respects as... not necessarily a fighter, but someone who has proved their usefulness in battle time and time again when a crisis has arisen. After all, it's because of her that Vash probably lived without lasting injuries. The man's an idiot but he's still Sanji's friend, so he appreciates Katie's help on the matter (though he'd rather she not have to be stuck in fights, period.)

This sudden change in her behavior - the lack of falsehoods - is both concerning, and in some ways, a relief. Sanji has always given her plenty of space and freedom to do her own thing, but considering the circumstances, feels he's more allowed to be concerned and ask after her. And now he even gets the truth! Weird. 8|a
