He's actually pretty quick to form opinions, even if they're just neutral ones. 8|b

Pao-Lin was a big help during the crisis when the moon was falling on the village, even if she chose not to evacuate herself. While it turned out not to matter, Shikamaru wishes he would've been able to convince her. That he didn't also speaks volumes for her, as someone who could listen to reason but still have confidence in their own decisions to the end.

He finds her abilities with lightning fascinating, and that she's a capable fighter without it has his respect. From the drafts he's gathered however that she's used to fighting in a much different environment, which helped him understand why she's naive about some aspects of things, such as killing, or the Malnosso for starters.

But she proved to be adaptable, both those times. And she seemed to know a thing or two about chakra. Even if it wasn't the same as it is for him back home, that was a pleasant surprise.
