Aang is someone Shikamaru's heard of several times before he actually met him in Luceti. Being friends with Katara, it was clear how important he is to her each time he came up in one of their conversations. Even Masaomi, when he was AU'd into thinking he was from their world, spoke of Aang with reverence.

He never asked why beyond what he wanted to understand, but it's obvious he must be a good guy. Even if Shikamaru thinks he talks too much, and is sort of a goof.

But Aang can take things seriously, with a good show of maturity that surprised him. Having met him in person now, Shikamaru can see that he really does have a special quality to him, reminiscent to what he sees in Naruto.

It's hard not to like him. Even if his very existence is bound to make Shikamaru's life a little troublesome. The woes of having a roommate who wants to win over your sorta-girlfriend, man. Still up for Pai-Sho?
