The Daily Life Meme
THE DAILY LIFE MEME
GREETINGS LUCETIANS. Long ago, on a distant server, Kyio once unleashed a pleasant meme. But then it's been over a year and yeah, we need to do it again. It's sort of like an info survey.
Well it's back, with new questions! And thanks to Dreamwidth's generous comment character count, these might even fit into a single comment! It's a 33 question survey/meme about your characters and their experiences and developments in Luceti. It'll give you a better idea of where your characters are at and let other people get a good sense of what your character is like and up to. It can make for interesting stuff, really.
Feel free to respond to each other's tags with IC or OOC responses, questions, or what have you. Have fun!
Masamune
Sokka Thunderaxe
2) Weight: About 160 lbs
3) Eye color/Hair Color: Blue eyes with brown hair.
4) Age: 18 years old. (He arrived in Luceti a few months shy of 16)
5) Physical features: Sokka is a little more mature and sturdier than his icons indicate. This is a good idea of what he looks like in-game now.
6) Voice: Have some voice clips. Now that he's older, his voice is a little deeper and he doesn't go as high pitched anymore.
7) Who do they live with and how are chores divided in their house/apartment?:
Right now he lives with Katara, Suki, Zuko, and Aang. Inevitably Katara ends up doing a lot of the cleaning up, but Sokka has got into the habit of doing stuff too. Since he doesn't cook, he's often the one doing after-dinner dishes. He's also the sort of 'handyman' of the house for when things break and need fixing.
8) Their favorite (and least favorite, if you want) foods and who does the cooking in their house/apartment?:
Sokka loves meat, especially if it's spicy. He also enjoys baked goods, but doesn't like things that are too sweet. Vegetables are okay with him, but not his favorite. Steak is his favorite meal. Usually Katara cooks and Zuko sometimes helps out. Sokka is known to cook up some bacon, steaks, or whatever else if he's in the mood. He knows how to cook meat, at least.
9) What they do during an average day in Luceti:
Actually I am lame and gave him a vague sort of shedule. In general he spends his time at the smithy tinkering with stuff, or with his nose stuck in a technical or scientific book, or just generally goofing off and hanging out.
10) Their general sense of fashion:
Sokka still prefers the standard Water Tribe tunic (like this) since he does like to go sleeveless (especially now that he's getting muscular!). He usually gets his tunics made by Shiki now, even though she tries to push him to change the style a little bit. He's a little more open to other stuff these days. He's started to get used to the idea of blue jeans (it helps that they are blue!) and since he outgrew his boots from home, he'll wear boots of a more modern style. He still won't wear just regular shoes, though. He likes his boots. In the summer he might switch to sandals on a particularly hot day.
Right now where it's kind of cool out, he'll wear this flannel jacket that Buffy gave him. During a particularly bright day, he'll sometimes sport these cool shades, also a gift from Buffy. He generally trusts her sense of fashion.
11) Do they have any hobbies? Did they come up with these hobbies in Luceti, or was it something they always did?:
Sokka has grown to become pretty work-oriented in terms of training, working, and self-improvement. Which makes him appreciate his goof off time even more. This will generally be stuff like fishing, hunting, tinkering with stuff in his basement, trying to teach tricks to Momo and Hawky, or collecting cool weapons. He also enjoys coming up with new puns.
12) Has the situation in Luceti changed their view on certain topics/the way they react to different things?:
Sokka has mellowed out thanks to his time in Luceti. He's not as spastic, he's not as negative, and he's a whole lot more tolerant of things that don't fit into his notion of what the world is like. That's not to say he isn't critical of things that seem logical or stupid, but he'll usually just drop the matter instead of exasperating it by complaining about it. He's more confident and secure with himself, having overcome a lot of his self doubts about being a leader or a non-bender. He's also a lot less lazy now. Even though he can still be pretty lazy sometimes.
13) Do they have a weapon? If so, do they carry it at all times or just under certain circumstances?:
Sokka's primary weapons are his Space Sword and his Boomerang. In general he carries them around almost all the time, though sometimes he'll leave his sword sitting somewhere inside the house or smithy if he's just staying around the building. Aside from that, he has a few knives he'll always keep on his person and a bag of bombs that he sometimes keeps on him. During drafts he also has a small axe that has a lightning crest attached to it, thus earning him the name "Thunderaxe".
14) Who are their neighbors?:
Across the path is House 51 and 52. Those house Valvalvis and Neliel in 51 and Mithos and Martel in 52 (unless that's changed?). To the south is House 57, with Tony Stark. Sokka has met Tony, but in general he doesn't know his neighbors much at all.
15) Who are their best friends in Luceti? How often do they spend time with them and doing what?
Outside of his housemates, his best friend in Luceti is Winry. They work together and generally end up spending a lot of time together at the smithy and sometimes out it as well. He's also a lot closer to Buffy and they usually end up socializing over the journals or spontaneously meeting up, though Sokka will usually visit her at Good Spirits when she's at work. Shiki and Fenimore are both close friends and ones he will generally visit at their usual haunts and they will often track him down at the smithy.
16) Their favorite areas/stores/hang-out locations?:
Sokka works at the smithy and it's his favorite place to be, since it's his place and it's where he can feel the most knowledgable and useful. And he likes the couch there a lot. He'll spend time there even if he doesn't have stuff he's working with. Besides that, he will go to Good Spirits to talk to Buffy or All Passions to peruse the clothes and bother Shiki. He spends time in the library reading alchemy books or books about science or 'how to' guides. He likes to spend time by the ocean or the river, maintaining his boats too.
17) Wing color and how do they deal with their wings?:
Sokka has made holes in his tunics for them to slip through, but he'll wear a jacket or coat or armor over them at other times. But on a normal day, his wings are out for all to see.
18) Did they change or grow in any way physically since coming to Luceti?:
Sokka has grown about four inches, built up a lot of muscle due to his sword training and work at the smithy, grown out his hair a little longer (he now wears a braid with a bead his sister made for him), and has grown a small beard.
19) What do they miss the most from home?:
Family. Sokka misses his dad so much. It bothers him a lot that they finally got their dad back at the end of the war and that he's now spent ANOTHER two years without him.
20) What does their handwriting look like? Do they write the way they talk, or is there a clear difference between the two?:
Sokka's handwriting is pretty messy, but it's gotten better than it was. His writing is pretty similar to how he talks, but he avoids writing if he can.
21) Is the way they act in person different from the way they act over the journal system?:
He's a little more confident and relaxed in voice. In person, he's prone to being more spastic and nervous on uncomfortable subjects.
22) Did they gain/lose any personal goals during their stay in Luceti?:
One major shift for him was the change in his approach to being a warrior. Although it was important to him at home, he hit a major turning point in a misunderstanding with Sanji about how he stacked up to Katara (and just about everyone else in Luceti). As a result he spends more time than he ever did finding ways to make himself better, whether it's just training, devising new weapons, learning alchemy, or integrating Filial magic with his own style.
Also now that he's engaged, he's gained the personal goal of... well, being married eventually. Staying true and all that.
23) Is Luceti a technological upgrade, or downgrade for them? Have they adapted to these changes well?:
Upgrade. And he LOVES it so much. He's acclimated to everything very quickly by finding out how things work and in cases of stuff he can get from the store, taking them apart and trying to put them back together. As much as it interests him, it's kind of killed his penchant for inventions. Everything he's ever done or could do has already been invented. So rather than an inventor, he's more of a mechanic these days and has gained a penchant for repairing or building things.
24) FOR STUDENTS: What is their favorite class? What is their least favorite class? What about their general behavior in school?:
Science. He also likes math for the sheer logic behind it. He dislikes World Sharing, because most worlds are just nonsensical and he's not all that interested in them... He pays attention in class, more so than he used to, but he still doesn't do his homework. He only attends the first half of classes before lunch and intends to stop going (except to specialty classes) after this school year ends.
25) FOR DRINKERS: What is their favorite drink? What is their least favorite drink? Do they prefer Good Spirits or Cloud Nine? What's their attitude about and while drinking?:
Sokka doesn't drink. Much. Unless talked into it. He likes bubbly juicy drinks though. And he prefers Good Spirits. But he and Suki are known to go on dates to Cloud Nine. In general he's not big on drinking, since he doesn't find it very tasty.
26) Do they have any special talents? If so, what are they?:
Hunting, fishing, smithing, construction... he's handier than he realizes, despite his lack of special powers. He doesn't tend to realize how talented he is because he ends up getting fixated on things he's not good at, like art and cooking.
27) Have they learned any new skills or abilities in Luceti? If so, what are they? Why and how?
Sokka has vastly improved his skills in smithing and metallurgy since learning from Piandao. He's picked up Tennen Rishin style from training with Okita Souji and is a very competent swordsman now. Also he has begun learning alchemy from Edward Elric, but still can only do simple transmutations and only if he has lots of reference materials on hand.
28) What kind of habits do they have on drafts? Are they willing to kill or do they prefer to avoid fighting?
Sokka will usually fight with 'Team Avatar', whoever might happen to be with him. He usually will try to stay in a defensive position where he can help the most people, usually helping out in a strategic role by overseeing things and coordinating with other groups. Although he dislikes killing, he's come to accept it as a part of life in Luceti.
29) What kind of habits do they have on missions? What is their reason for going on them? What do they intend to use their points for?
Sokka isn't big on taking combat missions and if he does, he doesn't go for war zones. He'd rather do something more constructive than killing cultists. He keeps getting called to do missions aroud the Farmlands, much to his annoyance. Originally he started going on missions to earn enough points to get the Barcode-hiding Adhesive so Yue could be exempt from a draft, but now he just generally is saving up his points for anything he might need. He goes on missions mostly to get perspective on the outside world.
30) How long have they been in Luceti? Has that length of time impacted them in any way?:
Two years. For the most part, he's started to think of Luceti as 'home' and in a sense, come to terms with the fact that they could be there for a very long time (talking to people on missions has really solidified that idea too). Although he tries to stay optimistic about one day escaping and being home, he's developed a sort of defeatist attitude about the whole thing.
31) How do they unwind and get back to normal after a brutal experiment, event, or draft?
He sort of internalizes it and tries not to let it bother him. He tries to take it in stride. In the event of particularly harsh experiences, he may take some time to himself by camping in the forest, going on a mission, or burying himself in work. If he's really bothered by it, he'll be pretty obvious with it in the way he becomes serious and cold.
32) What is their worst experience from an experiment or kidnapping? Were there any that they actually liked?
Aside from spending a month body swapped with Haruhi (which wasn't due to the above), his most humiliating was being turned into a nine year old, but without mentally regressing to being nine. Both times he fell in love (with Toph and then Fenimore) really bothered him a lot afterward.
He actually really liked being given super strength though. That was an awesome kidnapping effect.
33) Anything else you want to note?:
Sokka has a Headcanon post! And it's got a lot of stuff, yup. Check it out.
Ling Yao
2) Weight: About 150 lbs
3) Eye color/Hair Color: Brown and black
4) Age: 16. He'll be physically 17 this summer. Mentally he's already there, due to his three months in Luceti before. Technically his 'real' birthday has already come and gone since it was in January. Ahh, the timeline shenanigans of the time of year being different when you come to Luceti. Unlike Sokka, he's not picky enough to pick a new birthday and will probably count himself as 17 next January.
5) Physical features: As his icons make clear, he has prett small eyes that always seem to be closed, but they're just squinting. He's sensitive about it and hates when people comment on them.
6) Voice: Here we go! If he's trolling people, he has an upbeat and kind of sing song voice. And yes, I pretty much think of him in English dub mode all the time. FIGHT ME.
7) Who do they live with and how are chores divided in their house/apartment?:
He lives with Ran Fan. In general they take care of their own messes and are fairly neat, but Ran Fan will probably take care of anything Ling overlooks.
8) Their favorite (and least favorite, if you want) foods and who does the cooking in their house/apartment?:
Ling basically loves any kind of food, but he's become more and more of a fan of western food thanks to his time in Amestris. Ran Fan will usually try to cook something for them, but it's not uncommon for them to just go get food at one of the restaurants instead.
9) What they do during an average day in Luceti:
Ling in general doesn't need to be busy to keep himself content. In the evenings he spends hours in some pretty intensive training, which is how he stays physically fit in spite of his eating habits. He'll sometime go to the Dome to do this, but he's not very good at operating it. He does enjoy hanging around the Dome's viewing area, though. He gets to watch people fight (or do other things) while having the vending machines for unlimited access to food! During the day he'll usually stick to the rooftops for travel, popping in on people by surprise (usually through a window) or watching the going ons of people. If he's not doing that or weaseling his way into food, he can also be found meditating. Lately he will sometimes pop into the Rec Center to watch people play stuff, particularly the video games. He's not very good at them, but he likes watching people play (and providing unhelpful commentary).
10) Their general sense of fashion:
Like so! Lately in the winter he's been wearing a heavy black coat and boots over that ensemble, as well as closing his shirt. But now that it's getting warmer again, expect to see him return to this number again. He has a penchant for wearing gold colors, so other things he wears will likely be similar in apeparance. And yes, he likes to proudly show off his chest. It's nice and toned. You're welcome, ladies!
11) Do they have any hobbies? Did they come up with these hobbies in Luceti, or was it something they always did?:
None in particular, since he's very goal-driven, he doesn't generally think of things like that. His only real 'hobby' is being a creeper and spying on people. Lately he's gained an interest in video games, though. He doesn't play them since he doesn't really know much about them, but if he catches someone playing he might try to get permission to play too at the Rec Center.
12) Has the situation in Luceti changed their view on certain topics/the way they react to different things?:
Not really. He's still intent on becoming Emperor, even if he has to wait for years to get back and become it. He'll play the Malnosso's game because he thinks they're his best chance of getting back, so he doesn't see much point in acting out against them. One thing that has changed is his relationship with Ran Fan, which is strained due to a mutual attraction to each other that they can't acknowledge or do anything about.
13) Do they have a weapon? If so, do they carry it at all times or just under certain circumstances?:
He has a dao blade that was made for him by Edward (from Infinity Undiscovery) to replace the old one he lost in Gluttony's stomach. He usually keeps it with him, hanging from the back of his waist. Compared to all the kunai and bomb and weapons that Fu and Ran Fan carry, only having his sword means Ling travels pretty lightly.
14) Who are their neighbors?:
Cloche and Saleh both live on his floor, but they probably rarely see him since he only uses the door of his apartment to go to the kitchen. 8|
15) Who are their best friends in Luceti? How often do they spend time with them and doing what?
In all honesty, Ling hasn't really made any close friends in Luceti and it would be dubious to say any of the people he knows are even his friends, rather than people that just are fun to rile up. Outside of Ran Fan, his closest friends is Edward Elric and he's one of the only people who really get to see the more complex and deeper side of Ling that he hides from everyone else. As a result, he doesn't troll Edward as much as he used to and sometimes they'll even have normal conversations.
16) Their favorite areas/stores/hang-out locations?:
He likes the Hughes house a lot. Sometimes they'll feed him! But his favorite places are all the restaurants, especially if they don't get sick of his ridiculous appetite. He also likes the second floor of the Battle Dome and pretty much all the rooftops of Luceti.
17) Wing color and how do they deal with their wings?:
He keeps his wings exposed, having made holes in everything he wears to keep them unconfined and loose.
18) Did they change or grow in any way physically since coming to Luceti?:
He's a little taller now, but not too much in physical changes. Unless you count the Malnosso fusing his Philosopher's Stone with his body and turning him into a human-based Homunculus. That part is different.
19) What do they miss the most from home?:
Xing. He had already been away from it for nearly a year when he was brought to Luceti. So having not seen it for so long he misses the Yao Clan so much. He was really looking forward to seeing how happy his people would be when they realized he had succeeded and their future survival secured.
20) What does their handwriting look like? Do they write the way they talk, or is there a clear difference between the two?:
Neat and sophisticated, as someone tutored to one day be royalty should be. His writing is a little more formal than his speech, but he doesn't really enjoy communicating that way, since writing isn't supposed to be such a back-and-forth way of communication.
21) Is the way they act in person different from the way they act over the journal system?:
More or less the same, but in person he's a bit more of a troll and more elusive about himself.
22) Did they gain/lose any personal goals during their stay in Luceti?:
None yet. Having so long to think though has made him consider how he will rule Xing. One thing he's concluded is knowing that he needs to abolish the clan system, but doing so will require gaining alliances and favor from the largest clans first, which will require political manipulations and dealmaking, and likely choosing a wife (and only one wife) of strategic value.
23) Is Luceti a technological upgrade, or downgrade for them? Have they adapted to these changes well?:
An upgrade, save for the lack of vehicles. But he's never been too interested in technology anyway, so the change isn't that big of a deal for him. Sometimes it gets tedious for him, but he adapts.
24) FOR STUDENTS: What is their favorite class? What is their least favorite class? What about their general behavior in school?:
Ling enjoys World Sharing. Not because the subject is interesting, but because he gets tired of listening to the same teacher go on and on forever. He also likes it because it's different and more interactive. Having been privately tutored as a child, the interactive aspect of school is the most intriguing for him.
25) FOR DRINKERS: What is their favorite drink? What is their least favorite drink? Do they prefer Good Spirits or Cloud Nine? What's their attitude about and while drinking?:26) Do they have any special talents? If so, what are they?:
Aside from being a phenomenally skilled fighter, Ling has the ability to sense chi, in other words, the soul or lifeforce of a person. In general most chi is indistinguishable for one person to the next, but it can be quite handy as a sort of sixth sense if his sight should be hampered.
27) Have they learned any new skills or abilities in Luceti? If so, what are they? Why and how?
He knows how to turn on a video game console. 8|
28) What kind of habits do they have on drafts? Are they willing to kill or do they prefer to avoid fighting?
Ling will kill and do so without issue. Having dealt with attempts on his life since childhood, he's had to deal with death since he was very young. So he has no issue killing cultists. In general, during drafts, he prefers to operate stealthily and uses his chi sensing abilities to track their movements. He doesn't generally go off on his own too much in actual combat, though.
29) What kind of habits do they have on missions? What is their reason for going on them? What do they intend to use their points for?
He hasn't gone on any missions yet, since he doesn't really have a reason to. But he's considering going on them to see if he can convince the Malnosso to give Ran Fan her arm back. However he wouldn't do that without talking to her and right now isn't the best time to bring it up. It's a delicate matter since he doesn't want to diminish the sacrifice she made for his sake.
30) How long have they been in Luceti? Has that length of time impacted them in any way?:
Almost eight months. Plus three previously as Greed/Ling. Aside from the above Homunculus issue and things changing with him and Ran Fan, not too much.
31) How do they unwind and get back to normal after a brutal experiment, event, or draft?
Frankly the experiments and drafts aren't anything worse than what he's put up with in his life, so they don't generally bother him much at all. So he usually bounces back quickly after an experiment.
32) What is their worst experience from an experiment or kidnapping? Were there any that they actually liked?
Probably the last experiment. Not because it particularly bothered him, but because his AU self complicated his relationship with Ran Fan. Other than that, he actually liked the Love Event. It was nice getting to enjoy that feeling of genuine (yet artificial) love.
33) Anything else you want to note?:
Ling you need to be an actual friend to people. 8|
